Lisa Janeen Webb
Lisa Janeen Webb worked for the Daniels Summit Lodge as a Group
Coordinator. When the owner talked about opening a day spa in the
lodge, Janeen, only half-serious told him
"Ill
go to massage school and when Im done Ill be your spa
manager." Janeen from Tabiona, Utah had wanted to be a Massage
Therapist since she was 15 years old. Not too long after this conversation
she was approached and asked if she would seriously consider becoming
a therapist and manage the spa. She enrolled into the UCMT Professional
Massage Therapy Program immediately.
The rest is history, in October 2002 Janeen graduated with DP-22
from the Utah Valley Campus. She licensed quickly and went to work
for the Daniels Summit Lodge as the Spa Manger. Since she started
her job, she has been surprised at how many other opportunities
have come her way as a therapist. In a recent visit to the campus
Janeen said "If you just get out and start doing the work,
you would be surprised what kind of opportunities come available
to you! But you have to be out doing the work." Despite the
offers that have come her way, Janeen remains loyal to Daniels Summit
Lodge and loves her new career.
Janeen had many obstacles during her education. The first of which
was having to be away from her husband and her daughter. Janeen
stayed in the Salt Lake area while she went through school and traveled
home to Tabiona, to be with her family on the weekends. She also
took on the financial burden of only having one income during this
period of time. Despite her struggles, she maintained perfect attendance,
received a 4.0 and managed to receive the High Five Award. "The
Utah College of Massage Therapy is molding us to be working professionals,
it is not meant to be easy, it wouldnt be one of the best
schools in the industry if it was easy."
When asked what advice she would give to students and graduates
of the program, she said: "Dig in and follow your dreams, keep
a journal. You need to realize that there is so much out there you
just need to do it."
